Mom...

Is home, and feeling much better! After thirteen days in the hospital, she was more than ready to get back to her own house and bed today. Things are looking better, but she is going to have a long (and probably painful) recovery period.

Thank you all for your prayers and encouragement. You have all meant so much to me. I have had several people asking for her address to send her cards, and I know she would be tickled to receive your beautiful creations. Be sure to mention that you know me from my blog so she won't get freaked out! LOL! Here it is:

Carole Prescott
774 Rock Creek Road
Flintstone, GA 30725

I have alot of cleaning to do, and I will be staying with Mom while Dad returns to work. I will be back often to post some new cards, but I am afraid that it will not be an everyday occurrence. Thank you for understanding and for lifting my Mom up to the Lord.....God Is Good! Until later....

...Please Pray For Mom

As many of you have noticed, I have been MIA for the last few days. My mom had outpatient gall bladder surgery two Monday's ago. She came home, and was up and about to her normal self the next day. Wednesday was no different. However, Wednesday night she began vomiting and was afraid that it was a reaction to her pain medication. The next morning the pharmacist advised her to discontinue their use. She continued to vomit, and she was losing more liquids than she was putting in. Dad took her back to the hospital via the emergency room on Friday where she was admitted for dehydration and testing. The tests concluded that mom's kidneys were shutting down due to the extreme dehydration, and they sent her for a CT scan to make sure there were no other problems with her internal organs. The scan revealed a bowel obstruction caused by a small hernia near her belly button.

Surgery was scheduled and performed last Sunday morning where the doctor removed over two feet of her small intestines (this included the section that was in the hernia and scar tissue from previous surgeries). Things were looking up as far as her recovery was concerned until yesterday. She was taken off of her NG tube, and she was allowed to eat/drink clear liquids in hopes that the bowels would kick-start again without any problems. She began vomiting again late last night and was placed back on the NG machine. X-rays were ordered first thing this morning, and there is another blockage somewhere. We haven't spoken to the doctor to find out where the exact location of the blockage is yet, but he should come back in tomorrow morning. I will be with her for another five to seven days while she remains in the hospital.

Please pray for the doctors' wisdom, my mother's recovery, my father's understanding and strength, my family's unity, and my strength to care for her. I will try to keep you posted as much as possible.

...Well

It has been a very long week, and there is no good news to share. I have been spending alot of time at the hospital in the daily vigil over Robin's father-in-law, Herbert Eakin. Sadly, he passed away last night around 11:30 pm. He had made it quite clear to his family and physicians in the previous days that he did not want to be kept alive by artificial means. So honoring his request, the family made the decision to remove him from the respirator around lunch yesterday morning. He was very coherent in the first few hours after its removal, but as the day went on that changed drastically. His family was present with him throughout the day to say their goodbyes, but no one really wanted to watch him take his last breath. However, Kesha (his granddaughter) was there with him as he left this world and entered into his eternal home. She stated that his passing was very peaceful, and such a precious moment for her.

Please continue to pray for this family in the upcoming days as they prepare to lay him to rest on Tuesday afternoon.

...No Cards Today

Sorry about not being able to share any cards today. I went over to my best friends' (Robin and Lakesha) house to spend the day stamping yesterday (I actually completed 2 cards, and I have one almost finished). Around dinner time, we received a phone call that Robin's father-in-law was going to have to undergo exploratory surgery to try to locate an infection in his abdomen that was discovered during his emergency room visit that morning. He had been having major stomach problems for many days prior to this ER visit. Around lunch, we had learned that his abdomen was full of infection, but we didn't have anything else to go on. The doctors were giving little hope, so we all rushed to the hospital. We stayed up there all night, and I only returned home around 3:30 this morning...so I have been asleep most of the afternoon.
Please pray for this precious family. Papaw came through the surgery where they discovered that his appendix had perforated. They removed it, cultured an abscess that had formed on it, then cleaned the rest of his organs. He was very alert in the ICU, and had removed (or at least tried to remove) several of the lines that he was attached to early this morning. The doctor decided to put him back onto the ventilator and sedate him in order for him to recover over the next few days. It is still a touch-and-go situation, and the doctors are worried about a man of his advanced age (he's 81) recovering easily after having such a drastic surgery.

I will keep you all posted when I find out anything else. It may be a couple of days before I have a chance to upload anything, but I will try to get something on here for you.
