...Embossed Birthday Blooms

HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!! I wanted to share this card that I made at my stamping retreat a couple of weekends ago with you all today. Pam Varnell and I had challenged each other all weekend with different sketches and color combinations...and this was one of the color challenges! The combination was Green Galore, Brilliant Blue, and Tangerine Tango. I started with a Green Galore Cardstock base, and matted each panel with Brilliant Blue Cardstock. The orange patterned paper was from the Tangerine Tango Designer Series Paper pack, and with sentiment from the word set "It's Your Birthday" (retired set) was stamped in Brilliant Blue Craft Ink. It was embossed with Clear Embossing Powder and a Heat Gun. The Green Galore Cardstock panel was stamped in Green Galore Classic Ink with the "Canvas" background stamp, then all four sides were pierced using a Mat Pack and Paper Piercer. A piece of 5/8" Tangerine Tango Striped Grosgrain Ribbon was added to complete the panel.

The flowers on the focal panel were from the set "Eastern Blooms", and they were stamped in Brilliant Blue Craft Ink and Green Galore Craft Ink. I didn't have a tangerine craft pad, so I stamped the flower in Tangerine Tango Classic Ink after stamping it in VersaMark Ink first. This made the classic ink become a craft ink...ingenious, huh? All of the flowers were embossed with Clear Embossing Powder and a Heat Gun. Each bloom was traced with a Copics Cool Gray No. 1 Sketch Marker (thanks, Janet) to create a shadow around them. The top two panels were raised from the card base using Dimensionals to finish it off.

***I want to take this moment to plug the Embossing Buddy: this is a small powder packet sold by Stampin' Up! If you are into embossing as much as I am, you will definitely want to purchase one of these must-have items. Simply rub the powder packet over the cardstock that you want to emboss before you stamp anything on it. The powder allows the embossing powder to stick to the wet ink and not the rest of the cardstock. The little splotches and speckles that can sometimes appear when you've embossed something can be avoided all together.....just wanted you to know!***

That's it for today! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving...and try to get a nap in! LOL! Until tomorrow...
